"Masca" was taken during a photo job on the island of Teneriffe, Spain.

Light can be unforgiving. Sometimes it is exactly as we want, sometimes it just fails us completely. Shapes change their impact to a photo as light either works to their advantage or doesn't do anything but flatten all life from them. For this picture, high above the Atlantic Ocean, the light was unforgiving and enhancing at the same time. Layers of structure, contrasts, light and dark, flatness and mist, are emulsifiying into an impactful picture, that shows calm as well as distress, the force of nature and a breathtaking view on what's behind the beauty of it. A sharp ray of light runs across the rocky plain right below the dark top of a mountain ridge. The blurry mist over the ocean will fade as soon as the clouds on the left give way to the glistening sun. To me, this is my favorite landscape picture, because of all those layers and complications in bringing them to live. The picture is meant to be grainy, full of contrasts and structure – because that's what nature is. Unforgiving at times, but always spectacular – it is rough, lively, raw and complicated. But all is better than a story that never happened, because there was no light to bring it to life. A little light can make all the difference.
